Discuss the requirement before the package.

Federal Bid Partners lists CMMC and NIST readiness among its services. A productive first discussion starts with the requirements your business has received, the work you perform, and the systems involved. Avoid selecting a service solely because another business used a similar label.

This is an engagement-planning guide, not an assessment of your company’s compliance. Use the firm’s CMMC service page and NIST service page to discuss current offerings and what applies to your situation.

Prepare context without sending sensitive data.

For an initial inquiry, describe your organization at a high level. Explain who owns IT, whether you use an outside managed service provider, and what prompted the readiness work. Share a public solicitation link or a non-sensitive description of the requirement when available. Agree on an appropriate transfer method before sharing restricted business or government information.

Distinguish documentation from implementation.

Ask which deliverables the firm proposes and who will perform any needed technical changes. A policy document, an evidence inventory, a gap discussion, and an implemented safeguard are different outputs. Confirm the role of your IT provider and who is responsible for validating that a described practice actually operates.

Agree on the systems and business activities covered by the engagement. Ask how additional findings or changes in scope will be handled and what ongoing maintenance remains your responsibility.

Clarify the role of assessment.

Readiness consulting is distinct from an official assessment or certification. Ask the firm to explain the applicable assessment path, its role, and any outside parties required. Verify current credentials directly when they are material to your decision.

Some supplied customer reviews use the word “certification.” Those are the reviewers’ descriptions of their experiences. They are not evidence that every engagement includes an official certification or that the same timeline will apply to your business.

Agree on the handoff.

Before starting, request a written scope covering deliverables, implementation responsibilities, review meetings, evidence ownership, and remaining actions. Keep a named internal owner for the work after the consulting engagement ends. Contact Federal Bid Partners to discuss your starting point.
